TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return)

Definition

TNVR stands for Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return, an expanded version of TNR that explicitly emphasizes vaccination against rabies and other diseases as part of the process.

Comparison to TNR

TNVR is essentially the same process as TNR, but the name explicitly includes vaccination to emphasize this critical component. While vaccination is also part of standard TNR practice, some organizations prefer the TNVR terminology to highlight the public health benefits of vaccination.

Process Components

  1. Trap: Humanely capture feral cats using specialized traps
  2. Neuter: Spay or neuter cats to prevent reproduction
  3. Vaccinate: Administer core vaccines, particularly rabies
  4. Return: Return cats to their original territory after recovery

Typical Vaccinations

Standard TNVR protocols typically include:

  • Rabies: 1-year or 3-year vaccines depending on local regulations
  • FVRCP: Protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia

Usage in Roll Claw

In Roll Claw, both TNR and TNVR are tracked identically, with detailed vaccination records as part of the process. The system:

  • Records each vaccine administered
  • Tracks vaccination expiration dates
  • Generates reminders for booster shots
  • Documents vaccine manufacturer and lot number
